The Calvary...

855 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: The Shining Truth
Location: Deck 2
Timeline: Current

Shalie tapped her foot impatiently as the lift moved her though the ship. She was heading back to her quarters as Lane ordered, but she knew she wouldn't be there long. She wasn't much for getting involved in politics and to Shalie mutinies were all politics, but there was something about the situation that made her want to help.

She still needed to get to Drew but she didn't know where he was. "Computer, locate Lieutenant junior grade Andrew O'Connell." She said clearly as she stripped off her civilian clothing and quickly replaced it with her uniform.

"Lieutenant junior grade Andrew O'Connell is located in the Chief Intelligence Officers Office, deck 4." the computer responded.

"Is he alone?" Shalie questioned as she pulled on her boots.

"Negative"

Crap... She thought as she grabbed her phaser and tricorder; easily stowing both. She exited her quarters making the short trip down two decks. As she arrived outside his office she tapped the chime and impatiently waited for the door to open.

Drew looked up from the report he'd been reviewing with his assistant, Devannani Ral. He hadn't been expecting anyone so it came as a surprise. "Come," Drew called as he thumbed the PaDD off.

When Shalie Montgomery stepped into his office, he could tell something was wrong. Aside from the CO having been arrested and detained, Section 31 taking over the ship, and everyone acting as though nothing had happened. She had a hunted look in her eyes. "What is it?" he asked a bit dismissively.

Figuring she could trust Ral, she didn't pause and she moved closer to Drew's desk. "I need your....help," she said almost hating saying that word. She moved closer to the desk not sure who was listening. "Captain Lane has escaped the brig and he is planning something..." Her voice grew quieter. "I blinded ops and brought the communication array on line for him and I need to contact security get them on Captain Lane's side....If I didn't know better I would say Command knows nothing about this....yet." She was calm in her delivery but her tone was serious.

Drew's eyes narrowed as he considered her admission. An echo of the nightmare he'd had whispering in his mind, he was reminded of being court marshaled and cashiered from the fleet. Drew looked at Devan who sat with her own expectant gaze. Knowing it was right but dreading the consequences, Drew asked, "What do you need me to do?"

"Us," Devan corrected, her short blond hair bobbing furiously as she agreed. "What do you need us to do?"

To say that Shalie was relieved was a bit of an understatement. She knew she was taking a calculated risk but of all the people on this ship she trusted O'Connell...for the most part. "I need to know what you know about the security chiefs...I need to determine who I can trust...the last thing I need is to screw this up."

Drew nodded. It was a simple enough question with a simple enough answer. "Ador Shran is, by all accounts, a grizzled war veteran. Loyal to Starfleet and fiercely loyal to the Marines. Where he stands on the commanding officer being upended by his own executive officer, I couldn't say. I imagine it doesn't sit well with him. I would think the same is true of Katherine Martin, at least for the loyalty part. No one here, aside from Arkham and her handler Harwood, has any ties to their agency."

Shalie made a mental note of the information before calling out to the computer. "Computer Locate Lieutenant JG Kathryn Martin."

"Lieutenant Kathryn Martin is located in her personal quarters."

"Is she alone?"

"Affirmative"

"Thank you..." Shalie turned to leave the room and stopped before turning back towards Drew. "I don't know what Lane's plan is...but he is going to contact me later...if there is anything you can find out in the mean time it would be useful...but I can understand if you don't want to get involved. "

Drew smiled. "I think we're already involved, Lieutenant. Conspiracy to mutiny at least. I'm sure to be hanged for it whether I act or not. Captain Lange still has it in for me," Drew responded easily.

Shalie sighed with a nod. Captain Lange had been one of the reason she wasn't going to enlist his help, but there were few people on this ship she trusted.

Drew watched as Shalie Montgomery turned to leave. With a call he stopped her. "Shalie, you may want this." Drew tossed the ovoid device Intelligence used to jam external listening and recording devices. "Make sure the lights stay green and all of this stays off the record."

"Thank you, Drew." Shalie said before finally walking out of his office. She fiddled with the little contraption as she made her way through the ship. She was going to need it when she spoke with Lieutenant Martin. Shalie only hoped that she was not on Arkham's payroll.
