Submission

898 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Restricted Independent Operations
Location: Turoc's quaters
Timeline: current

Turoc heard the chime echo around the room.

"Enter." he said.

"I wasn't intending to wait for your permission, Ensign," came the raspy reply from the dark. Lieutenant Commander Arkham entered the room alone -- despite the protests of the security team that Lane had sent with her to speak to the savage officer-- a phaser in hand. "Do you know who I am, Ensign Turoc?"

"No I don't but i assume you are brave."

Arkham smirked as much as the dark stitches crossing the crumpled skin grafts that made up the left side of her face would allow. Fixing her steady cobalt gaze on him, she said sternly, "My name is Lieutenant Commander Rowena Arkham, and I am this ship's Executive Officer. I promise you, sir, that you will never forget my name or my face as long as you live."

Arkham paused. "Computer. Tag all monitoring devices in this room as Classified Level 5, authorization: Arkham-Alpha-3-1-6-8-5-6-Theta."

The computer chimed, having successful executed the order and beginning to encrypt the data that was now passing into the ship's systems -- for now, the only one who could review the data would be Arkham alone, an act that was surely not going to impress her Commander; but the fact was, Arkham knew how to control information, and she would. She wanted to keep his respect until she absolutely had to lose it.

"Now, Ensign, obviously, you do not respect the chain of command here," Arkham said. "You have yet to meet an alpha who would face you alone, like a real warrior. An opponent you could respect?"

"Yes, our leader had others fight for him, a cowardly trick," Turoc said with a growl.

"I'm going to tell you right now," Arkham said sternly, "That opponent is me."

Turoc's eyes lit up. Could it be a worthy opponent...? he thought.

"You fancy yourself quite the killer, don't you?" Arkham said quietly, smirking as much as her ruined jaw would allow. "Allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. I've been proudly serving the United Federation of Planets for twenty-eight years of my life. I served in the Dominion War, as you did. But my mission was a bit different."

"My actions led to the destruction of over twenty-six Dominion ships -- as far as I know, there were no survivors. I singlehandedly took the lives of sixteen different men over the course of my career. I've seen fifteen others put to death. As an indirect result, I can name at least eight more who committed suicide."

Drawing closer, she showed the Ensign her ruined face -- artificial bone and false teeth were covered by grafted muscle and skin, which in turn was covered with the dark scars that inevitably came with having twenty-eight separate facial reconstruction surgeries. The crumpled grafts framed a filmy and sightless left eye. Fixing her gaze on him, Arkham added, "My own crew thought me such a monster they plotted my death in the final months of the war--though the records all say it was a Cardassian attack, it was a bomb in my office. I wear this is a reminder. There is nothing harder to kill then a cornered fox, after all."

Turoc had great respect for her even though she was a child-maker.

Arkham smirked coldly. "Knowing this, do you really think, that if you choose not to submit to my leadership, that I will have a problem completely destroying you? Putting you down like the animal you are?"

"No you are indeed a great warroir, why does the um co-mand -ing off-ic-er not share his record he must had proven him self in great battles to have one such as you submit to him." Turoc said as he got on one knee and bowed his head down as a sign of submission.

Arkham smirked. This was going as well as she hoped it would. "Whether or not the Commanding Officer chooses to reveal his record is his own decision. You will respect that decision -- he is my commanding officer, and likewise yours. We will have no more of this threatening behavior toward him, am I understood, Ensign Turoc?"

"Very well" Turoc said. "If commands to loyalty of warriors such as you, he too must be a great warrior."

"Excellent," Arkham said. "I will report back to the Commander. You will be released with his approval -- on a provisional basis, I will allow you your weapons back. But you will respect us. As an officer of the United Federation of Planets and a Yajuta warrior, you are duty bound."

"As you wish." Turoc responded, "I thank you for the return of my weapons. To be stripped of them is a great disgrace." he stated in not so aggressive tone.

Arkham turned to leave, smirking a little. "I have high hopes for you, Ensign Turoc. Don't you dare disappoint me. You wouldn't want to see me angry."

"I won't Commander don't worry about that."

Arkham left, a smirk crossing her face. A baffled security team in her wake, she headed up to the Commander's Ready Room. There was going to be a lot of discussing of what happened going on very shortly, she knew, and perhaps it would be best if she addressed the rumors herself.

The truth could be a dangerous thing, after all.
