Mission:
Behind the Mask of Familiarity
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current
ON:
Altir Kerr slipped from consciousness as the medical equipment beeped and flashed around his peripheral vision. The voice of Doctor Eleri Elde was the last thing he would hear as Altir and, as the passage of time stole away from the elderly Trill like grains of sand in an hour glass, the race to save Kerr began.
“Altir! Altir! Concentrate on my voice… Stay with me! Doctor Elde commanded as she raced over to the bedside, a stimulant loaded in a hypospray clasped tightly in her hands.
“What’s happening to him? a voice called from behind her.
“He’s slipping away from us.
As the Doctor and the med-tech assisting her rushed around the Trill’s prone body, seconds seemed to merge into hours as they medicated and comforted the old man’s occupied body.
Life slips so quickly from the hands of the young, the joined Trill thought as he lay, motionless and ready to face the next phase of life.
“Contact Coltan, the Doctor called out as Altir settled into a restful sleep. “He should know to prepare for the transfer of the Symbiont in the next couple of days. There’s no recovery from this. I’m just glad that the Symbiont is untroubled.
As Lane stood in his ready room after closing the com. channel to the med-tech, he sat restlessly on the couch and turned to look out upon the expanse of space beyond the glass. Space just seems to have gotten a little smaller, today he thought to himself.
“No, Coltan. I want to keep him rested for the time being. He’s not in immediate danger, but it doesn’t look good for him. Nothing will be served by you coming down here. Just wait until I call you. Elde out.
As the thoughts of death and sorrow overtook the young man, the darkness of anger sudden edged in.
“Arkham! he rumbled.
