Captain Lane strolled the ship with a thoughtful, ponderous expression. As he padded the carpeted corridors with his standard issue boots, the soft thudding and wafting of the decked plating beneath him felt like his own heartbeat. Over the past several weeks, the Archimedes had become his ship… his command, and he felt as close to its workings and systems as he had come to her crew. The promotion ceremony out of the way, and with the high spirits of the senior staff hopefully filtrating down throughout the ranks, the dark cloud that loomed just of the ship's bow seemed as distant as ever.

And yet, the weight pressing ever so heavily upon his heart would not dissipate. Like a forceful thunder that raged over the horizon, the complete sense of foreboding struck him hard and oppressively.

Since leaving port, the eerily quiet warp-journey to Citadel Prime was compounded only by the solitary orbit-drift they still held. Nothing was more disconcerting to a Starfleet officer than holding ground and waiting. The peace-talks in the Tower has completely ceased due to the assassination attempt of his very own first officer, Commander Arkham, something that Command had continued to apply pressure on the captain to re-initialise. The USS Nagasaki's marine and diplomatic parties were still holding fort close to the tower, and the Archimedes had now really only become an auxiliary support should the ground troops ever require it.

With the assassination attempt on Commander Arkham came the arrival of Alexandra Harwood. An unrecognised and yet official Starfleet captain with a dubious service record and an even more dubious affiliation with an organisation that has yet to be confirmed or denied by Command. What her role as Mission Advisor will bring to the Archimedes is yet to be discovered by her crew.

Then, there's his Second Officer… Lieutenant Commander Wesley Kemmer. Stripped of rank and under arrest for treason, amongst other charges. With Harwood stepping in to over-see the process, instigated by an ordered act to access a secured file (Harwood's file), Lane had been powerless to stop protocol.

Along with the personnel changes and developments over the short weeks the Captain had taken command of the Archimedes, was the mysterious virus that had been purposefully injected, by persons unknown, into the gel-pack system that had caused severe power and system failures across the board. Lieutenants Larkin, Mabren and Sheedy were racing against the clock to eradicate it from the ship's internal workings and teaming up with Lieutenants Dernah and Shran to investigate who this virus was introduced by and why.

With Commander Arkham's mental state visibly deteriorating, and Lieutenant Commander Wesley Kemmer under arrest, Captain Lane walked the corridors of his ship alone.
