Mission:
Wolves in Sheep's Clothing
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Current
ON:
Limping as fast as his legs would take him, Kemmer made his way to Deck 1 and the Captain’s ready room, bypassing as many people as he could, not making any eye contact, not exchanging courteous nods of greeting, now was not the time. The information he now possessed in his case of tricks, and the lone file held under lock and key in that memory block of the Archimedes computer system were the reason he headed where he did, why he did. He wasn’t even sure if Lane was going to be pleased with the findings or not. Hell, he didn’t like where it ended up, so why his commanding officer would either he didn’t know.
After ringing the chime of Lane’s ready room door, he virtually burst in before the doors had a chance to open or close. As soon as they did however, he began, “I apologize for the abruptness of all this, commander, I should really still be on the surface but you asked, so here it is.
"'Asked', Mr. Kemmer?" he questioned with a curious look.
“Computer, access file stored in memory block theta-nine-one-eight-five-four, authorisation Kemmer three-two-five. He said hurriedly while turning the screen around on Lane’s desk and activating the power. “Lay your eyes on the entirety of Captain Alexandra Harwood’s personnel file.
Lane spun the computer terminal around to view it squarely. "This is her file? I don't understand. Is this some sort of joke?"
“I assure you commander, it’s no joke. Wes started in response. “I’ve just spent the better part of four hours getting this file declassified.
"Wes, how did you declassify the information?"
“I don’t think how is really at the forefront of either of our minds right now, do you? The truth is that this file is now open for your viewing and the results speak for themselves. Apart from a personnel file picture and a physical description that anyone could pick up just by looking at the woman, the thing is empty.
Lane fell back into the rest of his chair and sighed. Feeling defeated in himself, he looked out of his window. "Thank you for this, Mr. Kemmer. I guess the Captain is more of a dark horse than I originally thought. How was this so encrypted when it holds nothing? I think that someone is playing a joke on us, Commander. And I'm not smiling."
“That makes two of us, sir. Wes started with a sigh. “I don’t know what’s going on with this Harwood, or what her real plans or intentions are for the Archimedes or the Federation, but this certainly asks more questions than it answered. The two men stared at the screen in silence for a few moments, as if staring would reveal some more text to be illuminated along with the rest of the ‘information’ being displayed. Needless to say it didn’t. “I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news and then run, commander, but I need to get back to the surface.
Lane nodded his head in silence, his eyes longing on the screen for more information, something, anything he could use to gain some sort of insight or advantage with this Harwood character. Kemmer stepped to the side and turned, and headed for the door and was gone from view.
