[Butler's Quarters]

After the doctor has settled into his quarters, he changed out of his uniform into a spattered blue on black shirt and brown shorts. He made himself some hot tea with herbs and took a seat in his favorite brown sofa chair. He sat there with a mug and begin thinking of the events that lead up to a person somewhere on board that is trying to kill him. He almost spilled his tea when the thought of the chief, security officer. He realized that he should have contacted him if the Captain hadn't done so. The EMH protraying himself is in sickbay doing physicals, pretending to be him to try to catch the person.

He removed himself and placed the half drank tea on a coffee table and walked over to the communication console. He placed a secure call to Orin ch'Valri to report to his quarters alone for a non-emergency situation, preventing him from having any of his security following him.

Orin received the secured call, which he found odd to begin with, before standing up from his desk and walked out of his office. He was pretty sure this wasn't about having a check up, since the doctor probably would have come to him or contacted him without using a secure channel, but the fact that the Doctor did use this method made him all the more curious.

After some time had passed he finally reached the doctors quarters and tapped the chime.

"Come in," he called out.

The doors to the doctors quarters opened and Orin walked in. He took a moment to look around the room, his goggles masking his eyes, as he took it in before walking over to Butler. "Doctor... I hope this isn't all a rouse to give me a medical evaluation."

"No medical evaluation," the doctor said, barely seeing the half Andorian's eyes. He waited till the doors closed. "We have a mystery person on board this ship that is aiming at me to assassinate me. I don't want word spreading or any eavesdropping crew members. I have gotten the Captain's attention about this. The hologram that I was running a few days ago has been tampered with. I am in my quarters because my EMH, er Emma, has been programmed to look and talk like me in sickbay to try to catch the killer. Emma portraying as me is doing physical exams to make sure nobody is coming down with temporal radiation. So, I'm here doing paperwork and let Emma doing the doctoring in sickbay."

"This is the first I've heard of any of this." Orin replied, hesitant slightly, as he crossed his arms over his chest. He didn't know what hurt more. Knowing this has been going on and he wasn't aware or that T'mpest knew all this and she has kept him out of the loop. "Has there been any casualties so far?"

"Just myself for casualty. So, we have a mystery person somewhere on this ship. Hopefully that person decides to visit sickbay for the examination. I did have a body guard while I was working in sickbay but I don't here as I am not sure if I will need one." He went over to pick up his forgotten mug and took a sip. "By the way, when my holo-novel was tweaked, it had a female character with a funny accent and was speaking some German. Maybe you might need to know if that could be a clue?"

Orin let out a deep sigh and placed his hand on his head. He took a moment to gather his thoughts before finally looking to the Doctor and saying firmly. "This should never have gone this far How am I expected to do my job when you pull me in midway through this whole ordeal? If someone were to come on board this ship with a deadly virus and not tell you about it till it got out of hand and infected others you wouldn't be all that thrilled would you?" He paused for a moment and looked down before closing his eyes, which were hidden by his goggles, before returning his gaze back to Butler. "Hiding in your quarters, and hoping this person strolls into sickbay, won't fix anything. Because, Doctor, should that EMH be taken offline by some ship wide accident, or because they aren't meant to be on for long periods, you are going to have to decide whether doing your job and saving lives is more important then trying to deal with this your own way. We're a crew that has to count on each other and, right now, you're not showing all that much faith in the security department."

"Oh, come on. That's not true about the security department. I think this detective work is interesting." I play the Robin Hood to get the bad guys in the holodeck. I love playing detective., he thought. "I do apologize that this has gotten out of hand. Hmm. I never thought about the EMH..." Jeff paused. "Do what you wish. I was only trying to protect this ship from knowing what I know about this intruder. This guy is out there some where and if he knows that I know, who knows what he will do next..." He threw his hands in the air.

"This is not a game on a holodeck! There are no safeties here to protect you!" Orin shouted, taking a step forward, then stopping himself. "Doctor..." He said calmly, trying to help him understand what he was trying to say, and to avoid another outburst like that. "There are no assurances that this person will focus mainly on you. You're the doctor on board a starship. Has it ever occurred to you that they may very well wound or kill a crew member to draw you out? It's a tactic used many times and, for the unexpected, its been proven very useful. Your oath wont stop you from standing by and letting someone die, cry out in pain, if you know that your skills will save them. In my experience, as a Marine and other things, someone trained to kill will use everything at their disposal to get to their target. That includes innocent lives. Do you understand that protecting the ship you may have done the exact opposite?"

"Did I say holodeck out loud?" He wasn't sure to laugh or put an imaginary tail between his legs. He rubbed his forehead and took a step back by his anger. "I don't know why me. I'm just a doctor here...," he paused. "Okay, okay. I made a mistake if I have done the opposite. Well, Emma is already doing examinations and it is probably too late to change it."

"It's not too late, Doctor. The situation just requires some clever maneuvering." Orin said softly, allowed a slight smile to form on his face, before continuing. "However, I don't feel that hiding in here will solve the problem. You're only showing your intimidated and you've given your mystery assassin the upper hand. Altering your EMH to look and act like you was clever, I will give you that, but its still an EMH. A tricorder scan will reveal as much and, as I said before, a simple power issue or any form of damage to the system, will shut it down leaving you back at square one." He paused for a moment and crossed arms over his chest before adding. "There are several ways to handle this, Doctor, and majority of them will require your help. Are you brave enough to try and to trust me, as well as, whoever I bring into this problem?"

"Well, I don't think the person out there would know that I'm sitting in my quarters," he went over to dispose his empty mug into the replicator and placed his hands on his hips. "I made sure that nobody followed me here. My combadge is on the EMH so she can answer any calls. Thanks for seeing me clever for I like to think outside the box. Let's hope nobody uses a tricorder on the EMH." He let his hands slide to hang by his sides. "I trust you." He just realized that Orin is a telepath. "Everybody needs some fun once in a while with using a holodeck as a personal get-away. But, I sure not going to use it again until this person is caught."

Orin felt the Doctor was only hearing what he wanted to and ignoring everything else. It was time to stop being nice. He tapped his combadge and firmly said. "Ensign Stevens... please report to the Doctor's quarters."

=Corridor=
Harry was walking along the corridor checking his patrol Area, he knew that this was just doing the same thing everyday, however, he needed something to do other than target practice and his patrol and logging in to do his daily report. but he thought to himself oO what can go wrong? Oo as he continued on his way to the next Junction. Harry started to get this feeling that he was going to be roped into something, but he didn't know what and continued on with his patrol as he passed other officers upon his way around the deck.

Harry stopped as his combadge chirped and tapped it hearing the Chief's voice he said," I'm on my way sir," as he finished, "Stevens out" as he spun on his heals and ran back the way he had come, as he thought to himself oO This sounds rather urgent, Oo as he knew that the Doctors quarters were not far from the ships Sickbay.

[Butler's Quarters]

He than turned to the Doctor and continued in a firm tone. "Your done hiding in your quarters. Got it? I am going to assign you a bodyguard and you are returning back to duty. If that doesn't suit you then its the brig. I would rather have a doctor doing his job then hiding in his quarters because he's too much of a damn coward to face this head own and figure out a way to stop it." Orin then walked slowly toward Butler. "Now, you need to use that brain of yours and start thinking of any reason why this could be happening to you. Why someone would want you dead. Who did you wrong or who would have ill will toward you." He stopped in front of him and leaning in slightly, speaking softly but also in a stern tone. "And before you give me any crap about how you'll just a simple doctor, keep in mind that this assassin isn't after you for kicks. You said earlier that some holo-novel you were working on was altered? Does any of that bring to mind anyone that might hold a grudge against you?"

"Whoa, what a minute! A body guard? That's a waste of time," he said with his hands almost up in the air and he walked backwards. "Come on! I have no idea who would do such a thing against me! I assume it is a man somewhere out there. The German accent female character was something I didn't program in the holo-suite! She did spiked my drink with something that nearly killed me...ugh! I don't know who! I prefer things go back to the way they were... you are the security. Maybe look at the list of people that came on board when we were docked. I know we had some new civilians."

Orin crossed his arms over his chest and kept the stern look on his face. "Hide and Seek is over, Doctor. Time to come out of your hole and get back to work. If someone is trying to kill you, then its only a matter of time till they figure out you're not in sickbay, and determine you're here. Then, all you managed to do, is turn yourself into a sitting duck and I won't have that on my watch. Like I said. You're either going back to work or you're going in the brig. If I have to make the choice for you then you're not going to like it but, if it means your safety and I clean up this mess you made, then I'll gladly take the repercussions." He stepped away from the doctor before stopping. "Checking the roster of who came on board won't lead to anything unless we are searching for something specific. You seem to have no clue who may be responsible so what would we even look for to begin with? And if this person managed to sneak on board then they wont show up on the manifest to begin with. The only thing we know, for sure, is that you're their target and keeping you close and secure will likely force their hand and provide an opening." He turned to look at the Doctor and added. "Had you bothered to involve me earlier, you would have found out, that this isn't my first rodeo. Me and my team have dealt with something like this before so we could have figured all this out and put it to bed far sooner."

As Harry stopped outside the quarters of the ships CMO, he pressed the door chime and waited to be called in, he thought to himself oO Why have I been called here? Oo as he knew in a few minutes he would find out, as he straightened his Jacket.

The doctor sighed as he walked to the door to answer it. After the doors opened, he recognized the security guy. "Come in, Harry."

"Hey Jeff, What's up?" asked Harry as he entered the Doctors quarters, As he did he spotted his boss standing in the room and said," Why do I get the feeling that I'm about to end up getting stuffed like a turkey at Christmas," as he looked at his boss and then Jeff.

"Not good. Welcome to the club, Harry," the doctor shook his head, looking at the blonde hair male who seemed to be lost in what was going on. "Time to play Sherlock and Holmes for there is a mystery assassin on board the ship who is after me."

"No... There will be no Sherlock Holmes for you, Doctor. You're participation is restricted to information gathering and for whatever I tell you to do." Orin said firmly, looking to Harry and adding. "And your job, Ensign, is to ensure he is safe and out of harms way." He looked back to Jeff. "I remind you, Doctor, you are a target here. Unless you want me to change my mind about making the Brig option and just make it mandatory."

Jeff turned to look at Orin. "I guess it leaves me no choice. It would look bad to put me in the brig when this ship needs a superior doctor. I understand that as you in security that it is not your first rodeo. Let me remind you, I had someone installed a defense program into the EMH so she will know what to do if she was attacked. But, like you said if it went off line...bad call."

Orin let out a sigh and looked down slightly before focusing back on the Doctor. "I admire your ambition to deal with this on your own, and your consideration to leave everyone out of it, but this is something that is best solved together. From you have told me you haven't been given anything in terms of demands or warnings so you were never told to keep security out of it. You made that call on your own.

The doctor nodded.

Orin took a moment to think, placing his hands on his hips, as he looked slightly to the ground. "This person seems to be intelligent enough to know where and when to find you and alter your holo-novel character, as well as, remove the safeties." He looked to Jeff and asked firmly. "I'm assuming you locked the editing of your program with codes only you know and don't generally go on the holodeck with safeties off."

"That's correct. No one knows my code," Jeff said. "This person is too smart to override my commands. But with the EMH, I had Adriana Keen do counter intelligence program using my personality. I doubt the mystery person will fiddle with it." The doctor glanced at the Ensign standing there and shook his head, "I won't argue with having a bodyguard again. Look, I love my job as a doctor but I seem to mix my personal hobbies with it. I'm skilled in playing detective sometimes and only trying to help but not make the situation worse." He went over to pick up the PADD, "I'm going to look over the list of civilians to see if I recognize any names."

The door chimed.

"Come in," the doctor looked at the door, wondering who else is joining the party.

Miral walked in and nodded. "Hello, doctor. I'm Rami Miral, I work with intelligence and I'm here to help."

"Intelligence? Oh, just what we need," he said. Jeff eyed Orin and Harry as he ran one of his hand through his hair. "We have an intruder on board that's planning to kill me." He waved the PADD in the air for a second before he went over to his favorite sofa chair and fell freely into it. "I made a mess of things that I was trying to find him before he or she gets to me. I'm assuming it is a male..."

"It looks like it," Miral said. "I've worked with Commander ch'Valri before. You should have come to us as soon as you were attacked. Do you know of anyone who would want to harm you? Anyone who has a vendetta against you? A family member of a patient you lost, or someone angry you saved the wrong person?"

"I have no idea because I've never seen the person. I'm looking at the list of passengers that came aboard a few months ago to see if I recognized anybody. I've made a mistake of not contacting anybody about the situation but I did let the Captain know of the situation." The doctor shifted himself in the chair to get comfortable and looked down at the PADD to a list of names and faces. He may have been cocky with the dangerous situation, bringing a myriad of mistakes because of how he handled it, but he was only trying to protect others. The EMH has already been tweaked with the program of being himself. Has that really gone far enough to be able to go backwards to fix the mistake?

"I'm not asking you to remember what you saw," Miral said. "I want you to think about people you treated in the past who died. Were any of their family members upset with you? Did you ever get any threats?"

The doctor was quiet for awhile. "Yes! I remember now. I remember a woman who died on Tatris III a couple of months ago and her husband confronted me with anger. He didn't say much, just thanks for not treating my wife! Hope death upon you for not saving her in time was what he said. I don't know any family members of his. Anyways, there were a few deaths as well. It was an outbreak...infections on the planet. We were able to come up with an antidote but we weren't able to save the ones before treatment was founded."

Miral made notes. "That's definitely worth investigating. Do you remember her name? Or his?"

Jeff gave up looking at the PADD. "No, I don't remember names from that planet. I do remember his height is about mine at 5 feet and 10 inches. His hair is blonde-brown. Never paid attention to his eye for a color. Will this help?"

"It helps a lot," Miral said. "We have a place to start looking."

He looked at Orin. "If I can work with you on the Ra, this shouldn't take too long."

Miral turned to the doctor. "Thank you for your help. We'll be in touch as soon as we have anything."

Jeff nodded without saying anything.

The intel officer turned to Orin. "I think we should use your shuttle for this, sir. If the assailant is on the ship, he might find out that we're looking for him."

Orin nodded and the two left together.
