ON:

Kali tugged at her bangs and stepped back to look at her preparations. Her calculations had been checked more than once and she had lodged one of her chisels into a crack, hoping that the force of the blast would drive it deeper and help in causing the shattering effect she was trying to create.

It was now or never.

She nodded at the Captain again and started the sequence that would overload the hand phaser, telling herself not to rush. It would take several seconds, almost a full minute, for the power to build enough to cause the unit to explode.

“Setting the charge, Captain!” she warned to give everyone enough time to pull back. She’d be right behind them, no doubt about that.

She just had to get this right. Then people would have to start taking her seriously.

Kali pulled her bangs down over her forehead once more and took a deep breath. As she put down the phaser in the spot she’d marked, she finished the sequence, turned, and bolted from the tunnel.

“Fire in the hole!” she called loud and clear.
