Arrival at a New Job

~ A few weeks earlier, USS Polaris ~

Walking through the Sickbay after leaving the surgical wing, Rise was updating the patient records for Lieutenant Gallivan when she heard someone cough.

Tilting her head up, Rise smiled when she saw her boss, Lieutenant Areth Ch'shraannek, standing there. The Andorian woman was quite striking, and well, no one liked to say no to the head doctor of the Polaris.

"Rise, come and have a talk in my office. I want to discuss something with you."

Nodding and putting the record padd with the others after logging off, she entered and took a seat, "What's up, Areth?

The chief smiled and slid a padd across the desk, "Take a look at this. I would like you to think about what it could mean. You are a brilliant doctor and need to look at your career."

Rise could feel her stomach tighten and then she felt a sense of calming peace radiating from her symbiont, who knew about her ideas on the topic.

But the Trill picked it up and did some brief reading. There was a position open on the USS Ranger, an Intrepid class vessel as the new CMO.

The ship was captained by a part Vulcan woman who had quite a good record, and Rise looked up, "Hmm.. So you're getting sick of me already?"

Areth looked sternly, "No, that is not why. You have done very well, but I can also see that you would do good aboard the Ranger. Besides, isn't it the way to spread around the experiences with your symbiont?"

Rise felt a wriggle inside her and nodded, "Yes. How long do I have to think about it?"

Areth checked the time, "Well, technically.. Negative twenty minutes."

"What?? You didn't accept for me, did you"

"I just sent a message with a provisional recommendation to them as a way of putting your name in the hat, and then had a talk to Honey about it. She seemed to like the idea and I think she is planning to convince you. They have room for Honey and Kil, and I believe that she will be able to work in the mess halls & lounges."

Rise groaned, "Oh, brother. "

~ Current ~

Sitting in the shuttle next to Honey as Kil sat on the floor playing with their pet tribble Glob, Rise reached over and checked on the cage holding her Drallaxian dragon lizard, Peynorb. But the little lizard was still happily curled up at the bottom, not bothered at all.

The sound of cooing was heard and a voice from the front of the shuttle called out, "Lieutenant, we are getting within long visual range of the Ranger now."

Kil let out a happy gasp and Honey reached down, grabbing him from just running up, "Slow down, Kil."

The eight year old did and Rise followed behind, as Honey scooped up the tribble.

Ensign Gutherey brought up the image on the viewscreen, and Kil cooed as he saw the ship. He stayed and watched for a bit before going back, and Rise slid into the co-pilot's seat as the ensign ran through the incoming flight protocols.

Rise could hear Honey getting her son to pack up and take a seat, while the shuttle continued on.

Kil returned as they were coming in, and Rise put him up on her lap as Honey stood behind. Reaching back, the Trill held her wife's hand.

Once they had touched down, Ensign Gutherey tapped the open door button and Honey led the way, gripping Kil's hand tight.

Some of the shuttle bay staff came in and Rise smiled to them, as one stepped forwards, holding out a datapad, "Hello, are you Lieutenant Lahl? We have been sent to help transfer medical supplies and cages to Sickbay. This is what we have listed."

Rise grinned, waving her hand around and checking it, "Yes, and thank you. This looks correct. They are all fragile."

"Certainly, Ma'am. We will take good care of them."

Rise picked up the cage holding Glob and her satchel before heading out.

Honey came over, still with Kil, "I've gotten our quarters assignment. And they said to give this pad to you. Guessing you will want to check in?"

Rise took it, skimming it, "Thanks, and yes. That okay?"

"Sure. Have fun and try not to give anyone an emergency intubation on the first day. This isn't like that bar."

Rise grinned, "Very funny."

Moving in and give Honey a quick kiss on the cheek, Rise turned and headed out to Sickbay to check in on her new staff.
