Mission: A Civil Act
Location: Ranger

ON

Minutes after Commander Cattmor closed her communication with the ship, she and CPO Addy disappeared.

"Commander Keen," Miral said. "We lost the others, too. If we can go off what Commander Cattmor said, they went down the elevator and disappeared. The boosters failed."

Keen sat back in his chair; he had to think abaout this for a moment as there were varied senarios that could figure into this process?

"Science, can you get me a probe that could fit into an elevator and remain standing?" Keen asked. "Or anything that can get me a deep scan, if we cannot do it from orbit then make a probe or relay and we will put it in that elevator and scan?" He said trying not to feel frustrated. "Get with Engineering or whomever you have to but I want some sort of scanning device at the last location of the away team and to get some sort of scans of the situation. " HE looked at science. "I do not mid if you put a probe vertically on a hover board and move it, just get some device in that elevator shaft."

"Commanderrr," T'kaarch purred, "I don't think it's the size we need to worrrry about perrr-say, but if something's actively blocking signals, we cannot communicate with it once it goes down... Just like the away team."

"Can you tell me why we cannot communicate or what is going on." Keen asked

"The prrroblem seems to be that we don't know WHAT's blocking it... We'd need a lot of backup systems to ensurrre that we can penetrrrate whateverrr's blocking the signals."

"Get a probe down there and maybe scan the shaft really close up and get an idea of what is down there?" Keen suggested. "If we cannot get anything from up here take a scan from close up." Keen tried to remain calm despite his lack of sleep; worry and the fact this should have been a cocffee break and not some sort of seek and rescue. "If information is power lets get the best scans we can. Haul it by shuttle if you need, I can take the ship closer but since we do not know what it is I think a probe and shuttle are better to risk until we have an idea of what we are up against?"

"I suggest sending the shuttle filled with scanning equipment, including a prrrobe," T'kaarch purred, "We can firrrst scan the surrroundings and trrry to find out what's blocking the signals, beforrre we send the prrrobe itself down."

"Commander, request permission to find out why the elevator is there," Mirela asked. "If we can find out why the elevator was built, we might find out how to get them back."

"You have my permission to do anything needed to get some answers and the Away team located. "Keen added. "You are the eyes we need right now, you pretty much have my full attention."

Miral nodded and began a careful and methodical search of the planet for anything that might be worth investigating further. She focused on the city itself as that was the location of the elevator. She began by eliminating all damaged buildings and identifying the ones that seemed to be the most technologically advanced. After doing an initial scan she turned back to Commander Keen. "Permission to leave the bridge. I need to run this through the Intel computer."

"Permission granted." Keen said from the center chair.

Miral nodded and headed for Intel to do a more intensive search of that building.

Shuttle bay

T'kaarch decided to join the away team on the shuttle, mostly because he was very curious to find out how the reported elevator worked. As he stepped in the shuttle bay, the probe was loaded in the back. Filled to the brink with scanning equipment, if this thing wouldn't get through to the original away team, nothing would.

Mirela had spent the last hour carefully sifting through data sent from Captain Michaels. What she found only gave her more questions. So, when she heard that a shuttle was going down to the surface, she received permission to go down and have a closer look. Along with that, her scans revealed a number of odd readings, and some sections of the building that seemed out of place. She hoped that by having a closer look she would be able to give Commander Keen more information that would help retrieve the away team.

The shuttle was loaded with a probe in the back of the shuttle. Stephen Lancer had seceded it for transport before heading to the Piloting Chair; the shuttle was on a time schedule so he went through the 'quick list' to get the engines warmed up and the navigational course.

"Lancer Shuttle lines ready for departure." Lancer said while setting up to launch, the outer door would be buttoning up as soon as the people came on board. "Last boarding call for the shuttle to the surface ladies and first class passengers please board at your leisure."

Lancer was the best pilot in the Communications Department.

"If you fly as well as you talk," T'kaarch purred with some mirth, "this trrrip should go smoothly." Not much later, a slight 'thunk' and some movement in the shuttle suggested the probe had successfully been locked in place, ready to depart.

The shuttle launched and headed for the surface.
