Mission: A Civil Act

ON

T'mpest was on the bridge as the ship dropped out of warp, inwardly eager for her first glance at the planet. It had been a long time since she'd had the chance to explore an abandoned civilization and even though she had Rylie's concerns firmly planted in her mind, it could not dampen her enthusiasm. However, being half Vulcan she was very careful not to let it show.

"Orbit the planet to allow for a more thorough scan," she ordered the helmsman. "That will also allow us to get a more accurate reading of solar radiation and how much of it actually penetrates the atmosphere."

For her part, it almost seemed as though Rylie's thoughts were not where they should have been; eyes either buried in a PADD or staring at the view screen running through numbers and equations, distracting herself from the inner thoughts of those around her. The order from T'mpest all but stating they'd arrived at their location prompted her to speak up to get the earliest initial stages underway, even though those involved already knew what they were doing. "Mister Blake," she said standing and looking round at the Operations post, "please prepare a class-3 probe and launch to the surface when ready." Then continuing to the Tactical station and Orin, "and launch a solar probe toward the local star, please, commander."

Cattmor's gaze lingered a bit longer than necessary at the Andorian at the tactical station, always hiding behind those goggles of his. She knew they were necessary for his sight, there was just something unsettling about them, like he really was attempting to hide something, before returning to the view screen and simply stating to any and all, "have any results correlated to the science team and command staff as top priority."

Orin tapped on his console and loaded the probe into the torpedo bay. He felt the lingering suspicion coming from Cattmor's, but choose to ignore it for the time being. "Probe loaded and ready. Setting target." He said firmly as he looked over to the main viewer before tapping on the firing control. "Firing."

T'mpest let Rylie take control of the information gathering so she could not accuse the Captain of overlooking information just to go down to the planet. The Captain watched the data scroll across her screen as the data came in.

"Firrrst data is coming in, Captain," T'kaarch purred as he peered at his science station, "We're alrrready on analyzing it..."

T'mpest turned to T'kaarch. "Excellent."

"Initial scans show... brrreathable atmospherrre, a bit dusty, but well within operrrational parrrameterrrs... Solarrr rrradiation also seems within operrrational parrrameterrrs but we'll have morrre inforrrmation when the prrrobe lands."

"Very good. Thank you, Mr. T'kaarch."

"How long before the probe reaches the ionosphere of the star, Lieutenant?" Cattmor asked.

"Still... 27 minutes away, Commanderrr." T'kaarch purred in response, switching between science panels.

Cattmor nodded in response, then turned to T'mpest. There were a couple of seconds in which nothing was said, either aloud or telepathically, the expression on Rylie's face a conflicted one between apprehension and doubt, until "If you're still planning on doing this, I'd advise getting your team together and ready, captain." Before she finished with an internal thought, because there's something about this I don't like.

T'mpest nodded. "I will." "I know. But I do not believe it harmful. We need to find out what happened and I still believe I am the best person to lead the team."

"Bridge to sickbay; how are the inoculations coming, doctor?" she asked over the comm.

"Sickbay here. The doctor is busy. Inoculations will be completed shortly."

Keen came onto the bridge, he had made sure to keep his uniform in proper order and was just getting some sleep enough to be functional. He might need strong stimulant caffeine but aside from that he was quite himself.

He moved to the Captain. "So how is the parking going?" Keen asked with a lighter tone. "I am ready to take the Conn at your desecration." He said almost light-hearted. "I know how you are looking forward to this."

"I hope there will be no desecration," she replied humorously. "I would like the Ranger to remain intact."

Wouldn't we all... Rylie thought with a quick raise of her brow. "Parking's the least of our concerns, commander." she said of-handedly, taking her seat and leaning in toward the central console.

"Very well. Away team, meet in the transporter room in one hour," T'mpest said. To Rylie she added, "I promise not to take unnecessary chances."
