Mission: A Civil Act

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Rylie just kept to herself, virtually burying her head in her PADD, and almost blankly staring at information that wasn't really relevant to the job at hand. It was obvious to her, if not anyone else, that Jensen was still struggling with events past, and that his road to normalisation was a rocky one. Not that it was easy for many other people either. It was also acutely obvious to her given the thoughts emanating from both, that Lieutenant Quinn was covering for Foster, even over compensating her friendly greetings to the assembled staff, as she found herself barely acknowledging it.

[NEW]

Eden hurriedly entered the observation lounge, smiling demurely at everyone who'd assembled. Seeing all the faces, she realized that she was one of the last ones to arrive, if not the last. Looking for a free seat, she saw one next to Lieutenant Foster and silently sent a prayer of thanks the Prophets. She may not have been Bajoran, but her husband's beliefs had rubbed off on her a bit; after all she was raising her children to appreciate both human and Bajoran beliefs. She quickly took a cup of coffee from the tray and blueberry muffin along with a rather large turnover-looking pastry. Whatever it was, it look delicious. Taking her seat, she looked the Captain and said, "Everything looks so wonderful, ma'am! I've never had a commanding officer take the time to do something like this, it's a refreshing change. I also think it speaks very highly of you and how you view each of us."

"Thank you," T'mpest said, giving Eden a slight bow.

This was not how she'd hoped the morning would go. Not only did she sleep past her alarm, but she also didn't expect to have gotten a notice from Lieutenant T'kaarch about being present at the debriefing this morning. Tavanna had assumed it would be quite a while before something like that would happen. Yet, here she was on her way the briefing room for the new mission update.

And that's when she nearly bowled over a pregnant woman dressed in a mustard-yellow Ops maternity uniform.

"Sorry!" Tavanna exclaimed catching the woman as gently and delicately as possible. Great, just what I need, to run down this poor woman and her soon-to-be child... Tavanna felt her temper flare just a bit, not towards the woman, but at herself. She was normally the recipient of her Klingon anger...

"Are you alright?" Tavanna inquired once she was sure the woman wasn't going to fall or trip or...

Adriana recovered well from the jostling and smiled, almost laughing. "Yes, we're fine, don't worry," she assured the woman who had run into her. New face. Very new face, Adriana knew she'd never met this ensign.

"Good," Tavanna basically sighed out in relief. Smiling apologetically, she motioned for the woman to go in ahead of herself.

Just a few minutes behind schedule, as usual, Adriana entered at the last moment. She'd had to go to the operations department to fix a filing error made the day before, and time had gotten away from her. She smiled apologetically and took the first empty seat she found. Looking a little wistfully at the coffee, she passed on the caffeinated beverages, giving a little pat to her (very) pregnant belly to remind herself why she wasn't drinking coffee right now. But she did lean over to the person next to her. "Excuse me, would you pass me a juice and a pastry? Any kind, doesn't matter," she asked.

Staring at the table, Tavanna wasn't sure where to sit exactly. Almost every seat was taken, and there really weren't that many to begin with. She had kind of hoped to sit next to T'kaarch, but saw that the adjacent seat was already occupied by another crew member. So, she opted to sit next to the woman she'd nearly run into out in the hall. On her way to sit down, she did grab a cup of coffee and the smallest of the muffins. She at least needed to consume the drink, perhaps it would make her more alert and less likely to be 'clumsy' as her Klingon god-mother Mara would have put it. Smiling softly at the remembered moment, Tavanna took her seat and awaited the debriefing to begin.

Cattmor couldn't stop a brief grin as she accidentally picked up the passing thoughts from Tavanna. Her imagination running a little wild thinking of the Klingon equivalent to the Earther's mid-twentieth century entertainment comedy troupe, the Three Stooges, and what that might go like.

Adriana leaned back in her chair and took a healthy bite of the Danish she'd been passed and looked around the table. When she caught Morai's eye she smiled at him, just a little. She didn't particularly like sitting in on meetings with 'The Brass.' Even though she was married to an officer, she generally preferred to socialize with the other enlistedmen or the non-coms.

Unaware of his tardiness Blake arrived next, googled the number of personnel already present then spied the refreshments provided. Naturally since everyone else had already armed themselves with something edible he dived in next.

Orin walked in, with Morgana by his side, and took a seat at the table. He took a moment to looked around the room, his eyes hidden by his dark goggles to keep from being blinded by the bright lights.

When everyone was seated, T'mpest stood. "Good morning. I hope you are all recovered from our last assignment. You all did well, in spite of some rather interesting opposition. Starfleet informs me that the situation is under control and warning buoys are now in place to keep ships away."

She paused for a moment to let her words sink in before continuing. "Our next assignment is to the Bedrol system." A holographic image of the system appeared over the table, slowly zooming in on one planet. "Several years ago, a survey team discovered an abandoned civilization had once inhabited the planet, even though the environment is not the most hospitable. Our mission is to explore the planet, learn what we can of the people who lived there and why they left."

"What kind of a planet are we entering?" Keen asked thinking 'the environment is not the most hospitable' was rather vague.
