Mission: What Dreams May Come

Jensen didn't know what to do. The onslaught of irrational emotion coming from the crew was beginning to take its toll on his fragile psyche... He'd tried Vulcan meditation, Betazoid mental exercises, a damn hypospray to dull his empathic sense... Nothing was working. And if he didn't get a handle on his gift, he'd be doing a lot more than acting out on other people's emotions.

Sighing, he got up from the floor and snuffed out his Vulcan meditation lamp. He just felt so helpless... And he felt horrible for how he'd yelled at Ensign Collins earlier that day. Too bad the ensign didn't realize that the real reason was because Ensign Zorja thought he'd been sleeping with his girlfriend. Which, if Jensen had been in better spirits, he would have found the whole scenario hilarious... Everyone knew his preferences.

He trudged over to his replicator and ordered a Jestral tea; he hoped that maybe the tea would calm his nerves. At least enough for him to try and meditate again. A few seconds later he was sitting in a chair and nursing the tea, trying to clear his mind of everything. And just when he'd thought that he'd finally accomplished that small feat, a voice filled his head making his blood run cold.

Silly, Jenny...

Turning sharply, he took in the shadowy figure of his former lover. Where once he'd felt deep sorrow and regret, now he felt nothing but loathing and contempt. Hatred even.

"Cal'n."

The smile that graced the younger man's handsome features was so big Jensen thought that his dead lover's face would split in two.

You remember me! How wonderful, Jenny. Maybe now we can finally get you under control!

"I don't have time for this.." Jensen set his tea down and moved to his bedroom, hoping beyond hope that Cal'n wouldn't follow. Seeing the young man leaning in the door way a second later, Jensen felt foolish for ever thinking such a thing. Of course he wouldn't just leave him alone.

Yes, you do Jenny. You've always got time for me. The Vevarian male came to stand before Jensen and wrapped his arms around his neck, pulling him close. Now, how's about we work on unlocking all that beautiful potential you have trapped inside? You know you want to...

Jensen glared at Cal'n and spoke in a harsh tone, "I'm not going to do what you want."

Tell that to all those emotions you're experiencing. You know how to get rid of them. All you have to do, Cal'n was saying, poking at the side of Jensen's head, is put them all to sleep. And by sleep, I mean dead as door nail.

And even though the rational part of Jensen's mind knew it was wrong, the part of him that was tired of all this pain found that thought enticing. So very enticing. And he was tired of feeling everyone's emotions all the time...

Shaking his head and breaking free of Cal'n's embrace, Jensen stumbled back a few feet. "No... I can't! I won't!"

Cal'n just stood there, looking at him with those vividly white eyes of his. What if I told you I'd go away if you did?

And just as Jensen was about to respond, he got a kick in the teeth from about fifteen crewmembers' who's emotions washed over him; causing him to go from terrified to pissed to paranoid to wanting to weep from lack of sleep and fear...

Coming back to himself a few minutes later, Jensen looked at the ghost of his dead lover and finally said, feeling a sense of numbness over-come himself. His voice was devoid of emotion and sounded hollow and lifeless. His mind was finally splintering from all the emotions he felt.

"I have a better idea. And I know it'll get rid of you and everyone else. We'll both be happy."

And with that Jensen gave into the fiery hell that was his mind. He gave into every emotion he felt and with that his mind finally shattered. Voices poured in and began to turn to screams of agony. Everything around him exploded in an inferno of hot, angry flames which began to eat their way outwards into the corridor...

T'mpest woke in a cold sweat. Someone was in her quarters. She could feel their presence, but she couldn't hear them. She strained to listen for any sound of movement, but there was nothing but the usual sounds of electronics and the hum of the ship's engines. "Orin? she projected, but she couldn't sense his mind through her shielding and doubted he would hear her anyway.

She reached under her pillow and pulled out her Scottish Dirk and silently slipped out of bed. "Computer," she whispered, "location of intruder."

"There are no intruders on board this vessel," the computer responded.

"Yes, there are. I can hear them. refine the search parameters."

A long moment passed while she searched her quarters. "Negative. No sign of intruders on board."

And then she felt a sharp pain in her head and she fell to the floor.

Eden sprinted down the corridor as fast as she could. Someone was after her and she wanted to find a place to hide. Hearing a noise to her right she stopped and aimed her phaser. After seeing nobody, she breathed in a deep breath and looked around her, making sure she wasn't imagining things. Though with what had been happening lately to her, the messages about death and torture, she wasn't sure anymore.

Then a fuzzy feeling started in her head, like a thousand insects scratching their way along her brain. Shaking her head, she began to walk, hoping to still find a safe place to hide, she didn't want the person who'd been stalking her to find her. But as she went, she still couldn't ignore the sensation in her brain. It was beginning to become even more intense.

As she rounded a corner, only a few feet away from Main Engineering, the tingling in her head became so unbearable and harsh that she let out a scream and clutched at her head. Her nails dug into the tender flesh as she tried to stop the feeling. Her vision became blurry then and then... nothing.

Her body crumpled to the floor as her mind was wiped blank and she was made to relive every horrible memory and emotion of her life.
