Mission:
What Dreams May Come
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: After Old Friends, New Home
After leaving the mess hall, Eden decided now was as good a time as any to head down to Deck 11 and get a good long look at what would be home away from home away from home. She passed a few crewmen in the hall on the way to the turbolift, politely smiling or nodding at them in acknowledgment. Once inside the turbolift, she intoned the specific deck; before too long the door opened and revealed the corridor of Deck 11.
Walking briskly, it didn't take long for her to reach her destination, Main Engineering. Taking a deep breath, she walked inside to find an area of busy people and voices chattering away about specific diagnostics and areas of the ship that needed to be repaired or alterations to key systems to optimize ship-wide efficiency.
Casting her gaze about, it didn't take long for her to find the individual she'd be working alongside for the duration of her stay on the Ranger. The man in question had a distinct look that would have been hard to miss, what with the spots running down the side of his face and all. Walking towards the alcove to the right of the warp core she stopped just outside of the individual's personal space and said, "I assume you're Lieutenant Yaris?"
The Trill turned towards her, a slightly annoyed look on his face. "Yes." The officer looked Eden over quickly and it was then that his face relaxed into a welcoming smile. "Sorry, didn't mean to sound so snappy, just not having the best morning so far. It's good to meet you Lieutenant Zayra," he said, extending a hand in greeting.
"It's not a problem," Eden reassured the officer, shaking his hand in return and smiling. "I'm happy to be here. And can't wait til I take over as Chief of Engineering on my own vessel."
"Well, since you'll be here for the duration of our next mission, at least til you can rendevous with your own vessel, you'll be working closely with Lieutenant Darkmoon for the most part, so I won't bother you with specifics, ma'am. But I will say that it'll be a relief to not have to work Engineering so much. I need a break."
"Getting to be a bit much?" Eden asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Just not used to being the only one in charge of Engineering, Lieutenant Darkmoon has a lax form of command around here, and unfortunately some members of Engineering like to take advantage of that, ma'am."
"Well, I'm sure they'll shape up soon enough. Just give'em some time."
"I hope. Now," Lieutenant Yaris turned away for a second, his green-eyed gaze filtering over the room until he found who he was looking for, "Ensign Zatahr! Come here please."
Soon the young woman came forward, her blue skin making it obvious what species the young woman came from. "This is Lieutenant Zayra, Ensign," Yaris said, motion towards Eden. She smiled at the young, demure-looking Bolian, who smiled back in return before turning her gaze to her superior.
"I want you to take her on a quick tour of Engineering, Ensign. Just to give a good look at the layout. The Lieutenant is going to be with us for quite some time, and it would be good to let her get to grips so that she's not lost when she takes over on her own vessel," Yaris said, winking at Eden.
"Aye, aye, Sir." The young ensign said, before guiding Eden away on said tour.
After twenty minutes, Eden was sure she wouldn't have any trouble finding her way around or getting to know each and every crew member who manned each station in Engineering. She also couldn't wait to get to work herself. Thanking Ensign Zatahr for the tour, Eden returned to Lieutenant Yaris. He mentioned how he had some work to do installing a new bio-neural gel pack on Deck 12 and offered to have Eden join him.
Taking him up on the offer, Eden followed, figuring she'd meet the Chief soon, or maybe at the Meet and Greet later that evening; thanking Lieutenant Foster for mentioning it to her. She also hazarded a guess that she was going to fit in just fine down here in Engineering. Getting back to basics had never seemed so exhilarating!
