Mission: What Dreams May Come
Location: Mess Hall
Timeline: After We Have A Guest?

ON:

Eden was enjoying a quick lunch in the mess hall, sipping from a steaming cup of Masala Chai and partaking from a bowl of chicken noodle soup, just reminiscing, when she happened to notice the young half-Betazoid man that entered. Long, blonde hair and dark eyes. Could it be? She wasn't sure, but if she had to place a bet, the young man was Jensen Foster. One of her oldest friends and one she hadn't seen in a few months.

Getting up and walking over to the young man, who had his gaze trained on the replicator, perusing the choices there on the screen. "Jensen, is that you?" She nervously clasped her hands behind her back and awaited the young man's reply.

Turning around at the voice that spoke behind him, and feeling the slight nervousness radiating outwardly, Jensen turned and came face to face with one of his closest and best friends. "Eden!" He quickly wrapped her in a hug and spun her around excitedly, causing her to laugh aloud and joyfully. He set her back down and then held her at arms' length away. "Gosh, you look good! How've you been? How are the kids and Ren?"

Laughing and smiling, Eden responded, "Ren and the girls are doing just wonderfully. Though they were a little sad to see Mommy leave. And as for me, well I've been itching to get back to my calling and, well..." She ended by gesturing about. After sharing another laugh, she motioned for him to finish ordering and after that led him back to her table where she said, "How have you been? Good I hope?" She looked at him intently, worry creasing her forehead, remembering about his ability and knowing full well what had happened during his last posting.

Choosing his words carefully, Jensen said, "Yes, Eden, I'm doing good. Well, as good can be expected. I mean, it's still difficult, but I am doing the best I can. I've even increased my meditation cycles to help with my gift." He smiled at her and then continued, "I am however, very happy to see you here on the Ranger. Was wondering when your itch was gonna get scratched."

"It's good to be back in the saddle, so to speak," she replied, sipping her tea. "And while this is a temporary situation, I am more than happy to be here. I'm actually looking forward to working with Lieutenant Darkmoon."

"Oh? Is this posting not permanent then?" Jensen inquired.

"No, but then again who knows what may happen?" Eden responded with a slight chuckle. "I was originally stationed on a different Intrepid-class vessel, but due to their current mission they wouldn't have been able to rendezvous with me for a few weeks. So, instead of reading endless manuals and data PADDs, I decided to request a temporary posting with the Ranger."

Eden paused to take a drink and then continued, "I've already had a busy day, so far, what with meeting the captain, XO, Quartermaster, and getting my quarters situated. I'm just enjoying a quick lunch before heading down to see Main Engineering." Eden's smile was one of pure joy and contentment.

"I'm happy you're here too, Eden. It's nice to have a friendly face among a sea of new ones," Jensen said, reaching across the table to hold his friend's hand in a quick squeeze. He was afraid of getting his new posting, but knowing that Eden was here made all that seem unimportant. And as far as getting to know the rest of the crew, well, he'd get to know them in time.

"Yes, indeed it is nice to have a familiar face in the crowd," Eden responded, smiling and squeezing Jensen's hand in return, before taking a sip from her tea and snagging a cracker and some cheese.

Jensen sensed a bit of nervousness coming from Eden and spoke, "You don't have to be nervous you know. It's like riding a bike. Everything comes back to you like you never stopped."

"Oh, I know. It's just jitters is all. No need to worry, Jenny," Eden said with a smirk.

"I thought I told you to never use that nickname!" Jensen said with a slight blush.

"Yeah, well, I can't help it. And anyway, it's not like it's a bad nickname."

Seeing the raised eyebrow on her friend's face, Eden quickly grasped his hand and squeezed it gently. "I promise, it'll be between us and I'll only use it when not on duty."

"Thank you, Eden." He smiled at her and then squeezed her hand in return. They sat like that for a few moments before, he finally asked, "So, when do I get come and see your quarters? I bet they're lovely and full of all the things you love!"

"Give me a few days to get comfortable, then I'll invite you to dinner. How does that sound?"

"Sounds perfect! Just let me know what time," Jensen said smiling.

"I will." Eden smiled in return.

The conversation continued for a few minutes more as the two friends continued catching up, sharing funny stories, and cherished memories. Before they knew it, it was time to get back to work. Bidding one another goodbye, they promised to have lunch tomorrow, before heading to their respective destinations.
