Mission: What Dreams May Come

ON

Eden had awoken that day feeling ready and proud of herself. She'd been surprised with how fast her transfer had gone through, but didn't feel an ounce of apprehension or nervousness. This is what she'd been yearning for, the call to duty had been strong, and so she'd done it. And her loving husband was more than understanding and happy for her.

Taking the last bite of her bagel and sip from her coffee, she quickly checked to make sure she looked presentable for the captain. She didn't want to get off on the wrong foot just for lack of professionalism in her appearance. Hair was swept up in a french twist and her uniform wasn't skewed or wrinkled, she smiled at her reflection and then exited her quarters.

Walking down the hall she smiled at the few crewmembers she saw there and then entered the turbolift at the end of the hall. "Deck One."

When the doors opened to reveal her destination, Eden smiled and a sparkle came to her eyes. This was the brain of her new baby and she couldn't wait to make the proper introductions and then see where the heart of this beautiful vessel was housed. And waiting her tender, loving, care.

Stepping out, walking to where she saw the captain sitting. Eden took note of the PADD of information in the captain's hand, waited a few seconds, and then spoke softly, "Lieutenant Zayra reporting for duty."

T'mpest turned to look at the newcomer. She recognized Eden as the temporary Engineering officer Starfleet had sent to help out with the exploration of the gas cloud. "Hello, Lieutenant. Welcome to the Ranger. How was your trip?"

Smiling genuinely, Eden responded, "Smooth sailing, thank you. From what I've seen so far, the Ranger is a beautiful vessel. I'm rather happy to be here, ma'am. Is there anything I should be aware of before official duty begins?"

"We're heading to a gas cloud to find out why several ships went missing. When we find them, we'll need your help to determine what happened," the Commander replied. "At the moment, we have no information beyond that."

"Hmm... well, the moment we enter the cloud I'll run a diagnostic on all ships systems, just to make sure they're operating within acceptable parameters. Beyond that, I'll offer whatever help I can, ma'am," Eden responded. "If there is nothing else, permission to get started, ma'am?"

"Check in with the Quartermaster to get your quarters. Once you have settled in, look over your department and get familiar with the ship," T'mpest said. "Get familiar with the engines and warp core before we enter the cloud so you will know of any changes. I will also want you to help determine what happened to any of the ships we find."

"Yes, ma'am. The Quartermaster was next on my list. After that, I'll get myself up to speed on the ship specs, engines, and warp core. With the current mission, I'm at your disposal." Eden smiled, nodded, and then added, "Anything else, ma'am? Should I meet with the XO?"

"Yes. Meet with Commander Cattmor. She can brief you on your duties and what we have so far," T'mpest said. "She should have your quarters assignment as well."

"If there is nothing else, I shall go see the Quartermaster, get my quarters situated, and then report in to Commander Cattmor."

"There's nothing else," T'mpest assured her. "I hope you enjoy your stay on the Ranger, Lieutenant."
