[OLD]

"My telepathic skills are very rudimentary," the Vulcan replied. "Do you have any indication as to why he needs that sort of help?"

"Not for certain, Ma'am. Just that he said the word 'telepath'," Quinn looked down at Jensen and who was still unresponsive. The tingling in the her head was slightly worse than before, but she was more worried about her colleague than the sensation in her head.

Quinn was about to go on, when she heard Foster moan and felt the tingling in her head subside.

"Lt. Foster, can you hear me?"

[NEW]

Feeling like he had been thrown into the hottest sun in the universe, Jensen struggled to make sense of what had happened to him. All he knew was that his empathy had gotten out of hand and that he'd called for Dr. Quinn. Everything in between was a blur of pain and fear. Everything after... was a black nothing.

Opening his eyes, he found that he was staring up at the ceiling, Dr. Quinn's worried face clouding his vision to the right. He could still sense everyone between Decks 1 through 10, but found that their was a void, a blessed void, standing not to far behind Quinn. He knew instinctively that it had to be a Wall.

Flicking his gaze past Quinn, Jensen took in T'mpest. He was still feeling a lot of pain and emotion, not to mention still getting random snippets of thoughts from people, that his other abilities were just lying wait for the next spike in his emotional state to wreck havoc on anything/anyone near.

"Captain..."

"Hello, Lieutenant," T'mpest said. "I do not wish to restate the obvious, but how are you?"

"Honestly, I don't know. My head hurts, my body aches, and I can't get control over my empathy. Or my other abilities..." He said, sitting up gingerly, thankful that Quinn was there. Looking around him, at the destruction of his quarters, he felt tears welling up in his eyes. He had seen this much destruction since... since Kai's death...

As if in response to the remembered pain, the emotions and thoughts he was picking up on intensified. Glass shards that covered every surface started floating again and slowly swirled about. His mind felt as if it were going to implode. He needed the assistance of another with psionic capabilities, be it empathy or telepathy.

Knowing that T'mpest was half-Vulcan, he asked, "Is there anyway we could perform a mind-meld? Just to get my abilities under control? Once that has been accomplished I'll explain as best as I can."

She raised an eyebrow, a little surprised, but nodded. "Yes, that would be fine." She sat comfortably on the floor next to him. "Are you ready?"

Taking a deep breath, Jensen replied, "As I'll ever be, considering the circumstances."

She carefully placed her hands on his face and closed her eyes. "My mind to your mind. My thoughts to your thoughts." She didn't take long, nor did she spend time poking around in his thoughts. "Peace," she said quietly, instilling a feeling of calm and well-being in Jensen's mind. "Find the stillness within you and draw upon it."

Through the haze of pain, fear, and unrelenting psychic power, Jensen felt T'mpest calling for that place inside his mind, the place where he found stillness and peace. Within moments he found it and grasped for it for dear life. It wasn't really a place, but more of a person. Or rather the memory of a person.

Standing there in his own mind, with T'mpest as only a voice and calming presence, Jensen reached for the smiling form that was a mirror image of himself. Staring into the face so much like his own, but knowing that it belonged to his brother. The only person who'd ever understood him completely and had helped him cope with his gifts from the very beginning. If only to be the steady rock in a raging river.

Hugging his twin tightly, he heard, as if carried by a gentle breeze, "Remember that your gifts are tied to your emotions. If you let them rule you, your gifts will rule you. Take command over your emotions. I know you can do it."

"James..."

Quinn heard Jensen murmur quietly. As as she watched the glass that had been swirling about dropped to floor immediately. With them went the somewhat intense tingling in the back of her mind. Everything was just lying about broken and the smell of burnt furniture was the only thing in the air. It was as if a calm had settled in the storm raging inside of Lt. Foster.

Opening his eyes slowly, Jensen felt as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He held onto the calm and peace that the memory of his twin had allowed him to hold on to. Staring into the gentle face of his captain, he said, "Thank you Commander. I am better now."

Feeling her move her hands away and stare into his face, he began, "I said I would explain. Where would you like me to begin?"

"Where do you wish to begin?" she asked him.

Glancing around his quarters quickly, absorbing all of the destruction that his abilities had wrought, Jensen knew where he wanted to begin. The very first time something like this had happened.

Turning his gaze back to the two women in the room with him, he spoke, "My abilities have always been a major part of my life. My empathy is, as you both know, greater in power and scope than most other forms of empathy. I also have latent psychic abilities in the form of telepathy, telekinesis, and pyrokinesis - all the known psionic abilities in the universe. I didn't grow up knowing any of this. I only thought I was your typical, half-Betazoid with a greater than average empathic ability."

"When I was about seven-years-old, I empathically linked with another child on Betazed. My twin brother, James."

Jensen had to pause for a few seconds. Bringing up the subject of his early years and his twin brother, caused a dull pain in his chest, but he took a calming breath and found his center.
