390 words; about a 2 minute read

"Computer, being Chief Medical Officers log, stardate 63948.07. Lieutenant Larkin contacted me about some anomalous readings with the gel pack system after the strange power outage a while back. After our separate studies we found out that the system had become contaminated with a virus of some sort. Working with Warrant Jackson from Ops, we we able to map find out that the contaminate has spread through a good portion of the gel packs."

Pausing, Mabren took a sip of the coffee that he had got before he continued, "Of course, once that was found out, the simple solution was no longer an option. We just can't replace all of the contaminated gel packs with clean ones from storage, so now we have to find a way to counteract what ever it is that is going through the computer system. We'll start with various forms of radiation, though I doubt that will do nothing but slow it's progress. To fix the system, we'll need to come up with a way to remove the virus from the gel packs to bring the DNA back to normal."

Stopping, Mabren looked a way from the screen for a moment before looking back and shifting uncomfortably in his chair, he continued; "I also want to note a concern that the Counselor and I have regarding the Executive Officer, Commander Arkham. We have noticed, as I'm sure others have as well, that she drinks beyond what is acceptable for her position. At the latest staff briefing she had her typical glass of Scotch. And with her still recovering from being severally wounded on duty, the alcohol does not help."

Mabren paused again, thinking about the conversation that he had with Carter, "And the Counselor is right, I can no longer put the wishes of the Commander before the general welfare of either her or the crew. We didn't decide on when we'll have a discussion with her regarding the drinking due to the pressing needs of the mission, but it will need to be soon. Until then, I think talk with Doctor Halsey before she leaves for Earth."

Stopping, Mabren read over the transcript of the log. There were a few things he didn't like the way it sounded or came out, but he couldn't think of any other way to say it. "Computer, end log."
