Captain’s Log; Stardate 63788

Posted on Mon Mar 9th, 2009 @ 4:15pm by Captain Elsie Halliwell

473 words; about a 2 minute read

This is my first official log as ship’s Captain and, as impressed as I am with this ship and her crew so far, as with everything in life, there has been an array of teething issues with both.

We have just arrived at Citadel Prime and taken our place in her orbit. Commander Arkham is currently preparing the away-team to transport, via shuttle, down to the planet’s surface. Once there, she will rendezvous with the Nagasaki’s Diplomatic team and further their efforts. I can’t stipulate enough how important the achievement of peace to this sector needs to be realised.

On the other hand, however, the path to the planet has, for lack of a better sentiment, troubled us little. For such an advanced Federation starship with her limited fire capabilities, we have not so much as happened upon a sensor ghost of the pirates detailed in Sheppard’s dossier. What could that mean? To be granted such little resistance is unsettling, to say the least. I can only hope that we have been lucky with the route Mr. Parsons devised and nothing more sinister is afoot.

The majority of the crew has reported aboard and, from the initial impressions both myself and Commander Arkham have harvested, I am satisfied that they will turn out to become remarkable officers under my command. I do share concerns with two of them, however: My Assistant Chief SEC/TAC officer and one of the NCOs belonging to the Science Labs clashed in an altercation shortly after boarding. The Yajuta is an aggressive race as they are and, as drastic as the measure sounds, the Medical team are devising a ‘treatment’ to lower his genetic heritage temporarily. I have to admit that I am unsure how ethical the situation is, or how comfortable I am with the procedure. But, put simply, Mr. Turoc cannot continue to serve aboard a Starfleet vessel with such a destructive nature.

However, it is with the Betazoid where my concerns are greatest. For such a meek race as I once knew them to be, her aggressive tendencies have reared yet a second time, and while under probational punishment for the first. The war has affected us all, and with the toll so high, the victory seems hollow upon reflection; not least when looking upon such a damaged and hostile young woman as Ms. Vrel. It saddens me so that such a gift as telepathy could be utilised so violently and readily. As fractured as she seems, however, I cannot allow such belligerent behaviour from a member of my crew, least of all directed at a civilian. I am uncertain of how to proceed with her. She evidently requires assistance and yet I am unsure whether the facilities onboard the Archimedes could accommodate her outbursts. Or remedy them.

End Log.
