| General Overview | Marcus is a firm and strict disciplinarian, a product of his family background. Marc is generally quiet but is the discreet owner of a wild temper that has been known to lead to a brief lose of control. His experiences have left him ill suited to parenthood however he has had to manage since the death of his partner. Another notable feature of Marcus is his sheer mentality with regard to military and operational efficiency. | Personal History | As his name may suggest Marcus Domitius Augusta was born in Veliteri in Italy on the 29th of September 2342. The Augustans had been members of Starfleet Marine Corp for over a hundred years and as the oldest son of the family Marc was expected to follow suit. Although born on Earth Marc never stayed put very long, preferring to go on assignment with his mother or father depending on who was on assignment at any given time. This almost constant exposure to life in space combined with his father’s overwhelming influence in his young life made it almost inevitable that he would join Starfleet in some capacity. Education for Marc and his siblings was very much hands on, with life on starships such as the constellation and Proxima class's requiring all of the ships occupants to play a useful role. Marc learned valuable skills from the various departments as well as the etiquette and composure that is important for survival on a starship. Aged 18 Marc applied to Starfleet Marine Corp officer academy but failed to make the entrance requirements, due largely to youthful complacency. Rather than wait another year to apply, Marc entered the marine corp as an enlisted soldier. After three month training, he was promoted to the rank of private and deployed with his regiment to serve on Taleria Prime, a new addition to the federation that was having some problems with piracy in its space. Marc spent three years raiding small asteroids and searching modified freighters. While for many this was seen as a slow time promotions wise Marc benefited greatly, receiving field promotions instantly after every review, by 2368 he held the rank of Sergeant Major. In the same year Marcus began a covert relationship with a women under his command, Julia Morrellii was a corporal who had served with Marc for several years before their relationship began but as she was under Marc's charge they were forced to keep silent to all, a fact made difficult by the lack of talent Marcus had for discretion at this point in his life. The relationship was passionate and by 2374 Julia gave birth to their first child, Tiberius Morrellii. The euphoria that swept the couple and both their respective families was short lived. Before Tiberius's second birthday the Dominion war broke out. The conflict was a mixed blessing for Marcus, losing both his father and brother in Operation Return while receiving rapid field promotions up to the rank of colonel. In 2375 towards the end of the war Julia and her unit were obliterated during the final battle over Cardassia Prime while under Marc's command. While the battle was raging Marc, as the most senior officer still alive or not incapacitated, used his power of command to order the destruction of disabled Dominion ships. In his despair he committed war crimes before his vessel was disabled. In the aftermath of the war Colonel Marcus Augusta was court marshal for his actions at Cardassia Prime. The trial brought to light Marc's past history as an enlisted soldier. Despite his crimes Marc was still unwilling to agree that he had been morally wrong and refused to admit any guilt, a fact that changed dramatically when hearing of his son's fate. Because Julia and Marcus had never married and Marc had never been officially recognised as the father of her child, Marcus would likely find it very difficult to gain custody. This fact when revealed to Marc at his trial caused him to break down. Before the tribunal he acknowledged paternity of the child and thus his crime of having a relationship with a junior officer, in doing so demonstrating motive for his actions. Despite the fact that he had broken the law on numerous fronts the tribunal took pity on him, Marcus was stripped of his rank and reduced to second lieutenant he was also given a three year suspension from active duty on "Medical Grounds". Marc spent one year of his suspension before resigning his commission at the official rank of second lieutenant. During which time he was recognised by the UFP parental authority as the biological father of Tiberius, thus the boys name changed to Tiberius Augusta. The next three years saw the burial of his father, brother and partner in his home town as well as Marc seeing to the stable education of his son. Marc turned his attention to archaeology, an interest he had held for many years, achieving a doctorate in the subject during this period. Marc looked set to live out his days on earth when in 2382 he was paid a visit by an official from Starfleet. The official explained that there was a shortage of experienced officers within the organisation and that acts of vengeance by Starfleet officers at the end of the war had been common and were no longer unofficially condemned by the federation. The official explained that although his resignation from the Marine Corp had left him illegible to reapply, there was still a possibility for a commission with Starfleet. After lengthy discussion with his family and the lengthy protest of his son over having to live with his aunt, Marc accepted on the condition that where he went Tiberius did, his conditions were accepted and Marc was given a provisional promotion to Ensign and began career as an Intelligence specialist aboard the USS Tokyo. Marcus's duties and positions aboard various vessels during this time remain somewhat mysterious, a common trend for intelligence officers. Given time Marc decided to pursue a change in career and has requested a transfer to the USS Ranger as assistant head of security |
